Description of Duties

The Support Department handles miscellaneous tasks and spillover from other departments. This can range from fetching food, drinks or necessary supplies, to compiling data or learning how to do the basics of someone else's job on a temporary basis. We're temps, office managers, and administrative assistants as required. You should ideally be flexible, quick to switch tracks, detail-oriented, and cool under pressure. Although Support duties tend to be relaxed on a typical basis, that can change very abruptly during a crisis.
 

Division of Duties

In short, duties are rarely divided officially in any manner. Support staff are expected to be able to pitch in when and where they're needed, which means simply moving on to another department or task if another member of Support is already assisting in a given area, and further assistance is unnecessary. In the rare event that Support staff is stretched thin throughout too many departments at once, Chief Support Staff Officer Murphy Pendleton may contact staff individually and assign key duties by order of priority. Otherwise, we are essentially freelance.

Other Information

The Support Department is located on deck 249. Storage is located adjacent to the Shuttle Bay and is accessible by Support Department nanites only. Please refrain from racing the hovercarts unless you intend to invite everyone. And please don't overload them. Capacity is six people maximum.

EXPERIENCE » No history with spacefaring, but has worked on cars as a mechanic. Handyman, and can fix stuff that's broken with few materials. He pretty much fits the department textbook definition as a "jack-of-all-trades, master of none", because he doesn't really have any one specialty outside of mechanics. Why isn't he in Engineering? Refer to first sentence for your answer.
OTHER NOTES » Support is pretty lax in general, and Murphy pretty much lets people do whatever they want in terms of what needs to be done. As the Chief Support Officer, he checks in with the other departments to see where extra help is needed, and distributes aid depending on experience and availability.

» For the most part, Murphy is a quiet but easygoing guy. He doesn't talk much, but he's personable when he wants to be (unless you do something to set him off, but those temperamental moments are so few and far in between). He coordinates the department a lot with Remus Lupin, so it's like a joint effort between them.

» He drives the hovertrucks that is available to the Support department. He maintains inventory to make sure that they are properly used and not abused for speed racing (because if you are, you better invite the rest of the department). He does mechanical work and maintenance on the vehicles.

» Normally, he is using the aforementioned hovertrucks to drive them to and from the oxygen gardens to the kitchens in the passenger quarters (currently, Support is only supplying decks 001 to 010 with fresh produce to encourage people to move to more populated floors). Sometimes he'll bring one of his foul-mouthed bluebirds along for the ride, but will also invite anyone to help him out.

» If anything gets broken, he'll fix it. Almost anything, anyway.

» He has also done some crafting in the past. Welding. Stuff like that.

» While he's resourceful as hell and a pretty capable fighter, I wouldn't place any bets on him taking on, say, a mutant or a xenomorph with his bare hands.

» It's not his favorite thing to do, but he does sort through some paperwork and reports as well as the data left behind by Ianto Jones, the former Support Head.

» He is willing to lend aid to almost any department that is either short-staffed or in need of assistance. He is most qualified for: Engineering, Gunnery, Flight, and Agriculture.
